FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Climate change is one of the most pressing issues of our time.  Year on year, temperatures keep rising.  2024 was the hottest year on record.  If we don’t act now the impact on the world could be enormous.

So far, government efforts have not resulted in sufficient changes to keep warming below 1.5°C.  According to the UN, we are “drastically off track“.

It is easy to feel powerless with headlines like these.  However it is possible to take meaningful action against climate change.  Give Green Energy  was started to allow people to make a tangible contribution to stopping climate change by directly increasing the amount of clean electricity generated, and displacing carbon intensive sources of power such as coal and gas.

The more people who join, the bigger impact we can make.  At this stage, every contribution helps.

Energy generation accounts for a large proportion of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions. As the world’s population grows, and as people lead more energy-intensive lives, energy consumption will keep increasing. Increased green energy generation will also be required as the world moves away from fossil fuels and towards electrification.

Creating more clean and renewable energy sources will be fundamental to tackling the problem of climate change in the future. Energy storage solutions are needed because many clean energy generators (such as solar) provide most of their power during the day (when it is plentiful) and less at night (when peak energy demand usually occurs). Storage projects make sure that energy generated by clean resources can be used when it is needed most.

We will spend 90% of all funds and revenue on building our community, increasing awareness of our project, and building out green energy infrastructure.

Our road map sets out more information about our goals.

We hope to partner with environmentally-conscious individuals and businesses looking to promote their goods and services to our community. If you are a small business, or in sales or marketing of a larger business, willing to offer benefits to our community in exchange for promotion we would love to hear from you!

Australia is one of the largest emitters of carbon dioxide on a per capita basis, and has one of the world’s highest energy prices. At the same time, however, Australia has an abundance of solar and wind resources. This makes it an ideal candidate for building clean energy generation and storage projects.
As the project expands, we hope to build projects in other countries around the world.

We are not a charity.  There are many environmental organisations with charitable status which do fantastic work for the environment.  We support them and would encourage you to do so as well.

We have taken a different approach to combatting climate change for several reasons.  First, it seems unlikely that climate change will be prevented by charity alone.  Second, we wanted to create a model which is self-sustaining, whereby the majority of revenues crated by selling green energy can be re-invested into even more green energy projects.  Third, we wanted to make sure we have an incentive to expand as fast as possible, to create as much change as possible.

No.  We believe that people can care about and support the planet regardless of their political ideology.  There are plenty of organisations people can join if they want to engage in politics: we want to do something different!  We are simply trying to provide a platform where people can make a tangible difference to the planet over time.

We want our membership to be globally based, and have therefore chosen to price our subscriptions in a global currency.  While it may be possible to offer subscriptions in local currencies one day, at present we are focussing on a currency which we believe has the broadest global reach.

Give Green Energy was founded on a simple idea: if everyone on the planet could contribute just $1 per month, that would amount to $8 billion per month ($96 billion per year) that could be put towards green energy initiatives.  Assuming 4 hours of sunlight per day, and a solar cost of $1 per KWh, this could support some 140TWh of clean energy generation per year.  This is a bit over half of Australia’s currently total electricity consumption.  Put differently, every 2 years, an economy the size of Australia could be taken ‘off grid’.

Realistically, however, not everyone on the planet can afford to give $1 per month.  So we have started our subscriptions at $2.99, in recognition of this fact.

We had better hope so!  The alternative (doing nothing) risks our planet and our future on it. Every contribution counts so please, join us to help out!

We are always open to ideas and suggestions
